I purchased a 1985 300D turbo today to start messing around with as my daily driver. Got it cheap because it needs work and that is one of the reasons I purchased it.

My questions on this thread will start soon enough.
Jim

Welcome to my World!

Yes I am a diesel lover, I have had Isuzu,Detroit Diesels, Cummings, and now Mercedes Benz, I have a 300D and they are built like tanks, the parts are very reasonabile. I would suggest you find a good Mercedes Benz Workshop manual, The Hayes Manual is also good. I have learned alot on this forum! So welcome to one of the best Diesels made!

what part of GA are

you from GA diesel? I am in Warner Robins.
Is this car considered a 300D or 300DT?
I bought it to have something to work on as much as anything else.

300DT

Yes it's a 300D in the Mercedes Brochure, but when you go to order parts it's a 300DT, now the 300 TD is a station wagon, so go figure. I live in the high country (Woodstock) I assume you are in the military being at Warner Robins. So here is some web sites I picked up along the way for the W123..

Best car decision you'll ever make

I think the 123s kind of hit the balance between class, dependable, sophisication, work a day, simplicity, complexity. There are lots of interesting cars around and I'm glad everyone drives something different. But these cars are the as much as you really need in transportation without getting trick. Except the right hand mirror that works from the center counsel (sp). It doesn't turn in far enough. It's always something.
I wish you the best of luck and the greatest of pleasure with your new car.
