w210 606 sub-forum idea???

I think it would be nice to have a sub-forum just for newer diesels like 1996 and up. Just an ideea. What do you all think?

From a purely technical standpoint, it makes sense to have a separate forum for each vehicle..........one for the W123, one for the W126, one for the W124.............etc.

This has been discussed before and the general consensus by the Webmaster is that the sense of community is lost when there are 13 different forums. Additionally, some problems are common across all vehicle types and reading information about another body type may provide insight into a current problem with yours.

I don't believe there is sufficient support to make this change happen.

I agree with Brian and Bill.
Some other forums that I use have too many divisions, others have have only one forum for gas and diesel.

Here is an alternative for you.
I get tired of searching the same subject all the time, so I spend much of my time working on this thread.

Organized MB DIY links
http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/showthread.php?t=135055

You could do the same, and make a w210 606 links thread.

I was thinking that there is a big difference between W123, W124, W126 technology and W210 technology , if you guys think is not, I apologize for starting this thread.

Yes, technically, they are quite different. In fact, very little is similar between the W210 and its older bretheren. But, again, a separate W210 group would be relatively small and the sense of community would be difficult to maintain. You might get a posting every couple of hours or so. From a purely technical aspect, this would be acceptable, but, the forum provides more than a simple answer to your problem. Many of us enjoy being here for reasons that extend beyond the simple questions of problems and repair of same.

If you and other W210 members feel strongly enough about this, you are encouraged to PM the webmaster directly. His name is Bill Wood and he will entertain the idea. But, you will need all your ducks in a row and quite a bit of support. He's rejected similar ideas in the past for the reasons that I mentioned.

We're all in the MB diesel boat, and I prefer that we stay that way. Each forum breakout would be nice, but I learn a lot from posts that not only cover the 124, but the 123 and 210 as well.

And there's an excellent point. A lot of times the same engine is shared by more than one chassis. So would you break up the forum based on engine or chassis #? I say better leave it the way it is.

Don't do it...if the 210 OM606 diesel folks leave then us W124 OM606's and 2.5 turbos owners will be orphans and subject to banter that the W123s were the "last good Mercedes diesel powered cars." Of course when those rust out then they'll be looking for 95 E300Ds

There aren't even enough 606 owners to make it work (this statement is just based on my observation, not scientific research). Furthermore, like someone said, how then, do you divide up the forum? By engine or chassis? Also, check out the "Tech Help" Section. It is one of the busiest part of the forum. Why? All cars have information there... diesels and gassers, W123, W124, W140, W210, etc. So best to leave all as they are right now.

I agree, I often find interesting/useful info in posts that have nothing to do with my cars. I even find the VWO stuff interesting, even though I don't use it. Also, many owners of later models also have good info on the older cars, I would hate to lose that resource.

I often miss reading threads about the 210/606 because the thread title doesn't mention a model. Would like to see a model # on every post title in the Diesel Discussion area. My $0.02 opinion.
