How often do you drive your diesel?

I was on E500.com and came across a post that was kinda interesting... which led me to the posting of this thread.

How often do you drive your diesel? I would assume most of you drive your diesel daily, and that many of you only own diesel cars to begin with.

I usually take the 300DT on longer trips.. when I drive 50-100miles+ out of town. The C280 tends to be a better around town car as it has more low end power for manuvering and rush hour... and is less stressful to drive in bumper to bumper traffic... I dont worry about getting hit by someone brusing their teeth or sippin on starbucks and yappin on the phone. The C280 is also the car I drive in the rain.... its easier to wash- less crevices and surface area, and allows for the 300DT to stay clean + detailed in the garage. I like to save the 300DT for longer trips when I can set the cruise at 75mph and relax, or when I go to the coast.... the 300DT feels more special to me than the C280, and I like to use it for more special things.

What are your driving habits?

I drive the 300D just about every day. I don't really go out of town in it, the furthest I've driven it is probably about 70 miles out of Houston. Now that I've got AAA, I'd probably go about 90 or so Interstate Highway miles before I consider taking something newer, with comfier seats.

Every single day for me, mine is my daily driver. I average anywhere from 20-50 miles a day during school. Currently its more around 20 a day to go to/from work. Some trips to Lansing MI (70 miles away) from time to time also to see my gf and friends from school.

I too was pondering this while taking the kids to their Christmas Program. I drive it once or twice a week. I have a company car, so I just use it on the weekends. If it bad out, I just take the van. I make up excuses to drive it, my Bride will use it for road trips without the kids. Any rational person would sell it and get something else as a second/spare car. I am clinically addicted, but at least my head is not the only think that rattles.

My original intent was to drive the TD on road trips and jeep in town....Then gas hit $3.00 per gallon followed by my dumba#$ breaking the jeep(have the new 4wd system ready, 4.10s baby just waiting on the lift kit) but i have become attached to the TD. It completed 600+ miles between last week and today without a hiccup. And might I mention it is a GREAT road car. As to the question, it is my daily driver for an average of 150 miles a week.

I go to school everyday and its not that far of a walk and im trying to drop some weight so i walk to and from. On the weekends im at my friends houses they live in more crowded area's compared to me being in the dead suburb so parking the SD is horrible!! So again i walk or take my bike. The only time i take the car in reality is when its rainging outside, my dad needs to borrow it because his 16mpg vw toureag is killing his wallet, or my mom needs it because her car is low on fuel. And remember my car cant do highways because the wheels rattle with those damn wheels and adapters so its just a city car for me until i get this whole wheel thing figured out

My wife drives our 300d everyday. The only time the diesel sits still is when it needs to be fixed. When college is in session she will avarage 70 miles a day.

7 days a week.

The SD is the daily driver Nov-April
The SDL is driven daily April-Nov.

I will average up to 100 miles a day if I have a lot to do!

I remember last Jan I put like 800 miles on my SDL in a week. Between school, errands, a couple of road trips on the weekends, ect.

I assume you mean MERCEDES diesels? My 300D was bought specifically to use for long distance travel since my wifes 89 Jetta was not suited for that and driving the work truck was not economical. Then the wifes car was totalled and a 03 Jetta TDI fills the space in the garage. It is a far better distance car than the 300D will ever be IMHO. Quieter, reasonably comfy seats, and 50mpg at 75-80mph. Better in the snow too. The MB was always needing something, usually before a trip. It still needs the valve job redone, the ACC looked at, etc. etc. So most of the time it just sits. I do drive it once a week or every other week but thats about it. Since the whole fleet is diesel I drive one every time I leave the driveway. RT

Hatteras-

Im the same way, if im driving my 300D, im DRIVING it... sometimes, more often than not I average 100+ miles a day, and I have put nearly 1000 miles on it within a week and a half to two weeks. Then she'll get detailed again and sit for a while until the next round of use...

My C280 was a primary driver for me a couple of years ago, before I had a second car... I used to drive all over the Bay Area and to LA and back for events, school, and work. In one year I put 65K miles on it. Didnt miss a beat. The C280 now has 204K miles and thanks to my detailing efforts doesnt look like it has more than 50K miles.... it was my moms car before me and she barely drove it. My 300DT has only 197K miles. Its kinda strange having a much newer car with more miles on it than my 21 year old 300D Turbo.

Sounds like most of us use our diesels daily, just what they are truly meant for!

Since we bought it as a workhorse, we drive it every day. Put about 30K on it this year. The SUV is a 2nd car that is used for towing, dog hauling, ATV hauling or next year RV hauling or if we have to get dirty or large items or the wife has the 99 E300 and I need to go somewhere.
