Exclamation Do aftermarket parts manufacturer's face product liability issues?

Last month I tried to order a Girling Rear caliper rebuild kit and I was told by my independent that the part was no longer manufactured because any aftermarket supplier who did supply such a unit would be crazy to because of possible product liability lawsuits.
I shrugged my shoulder's and walked awy miffed.
He could be correct, as was the case of Bridgestone Tires on Ford Explorer's and Pinto fuel tanks.
Or he could be totally generalizing, because it would be hard to litigate against anything done to a car during the process of repair, as there are so many factors involved, such as the shop or private individual's ability to install the part, the part's quality, and use or misuse of the part.
I don't think any legal precedent exists to support this and I checked on line.

oh, this is America. Anyone can be liable for anything if you have a decent lawyer.
But, I somewhat doubt it since they would just be copying the original design. Is this guy the "don't make them like they used to, I want the good old days" kind of guy?
It could be copyright issues though (or whatever applies here) just like Caroll Shelby suing everyone who ever made a Cobra replica.

I don't believe it. I hear stuff like that from time to time from supposedly experienced people, yet I can still find the stuff I need.

Most manufactures should have some kind of product liability insurance I would think.

Sometimes they want u to buy the rebuild unit so as to make more money. Some slave cyl are quite cheap nowadays.

As for a brake cyl rebuild kit, is not easy to sue, reason unless you are a certified mechanic. As most layman, all they have to say is that you're not a pro so you cannot put the brake system together in professional level.

As a rule I wouldn't work on anybody's brake, because Iam not a cert Mech either.

I found my 80 SD has same rear pads as Volvo 240 of the same era. So u can interchange and is cheaper too.

Hey I own a Honda.........

However I have no carbon fiber anything on it or a non-original spoiler.

But I do have a DC Sport short shifter on it......nice to rake though all 5 gears doing nothing more than flexing your wrist. Because it does hit redline in every gear in seconds...But no it adds zero HP.....with 200hp on tap and 9,200 rpm redline I have ample power for street use.
