Tranmission Shifting.

1979 300D Auto. 168,000 Miles.
Two questions, What model of tranmission is in this Car?
and when i start moving it seems to stay in second gear for a long time, the engine seems to go to really high RPMs before shifting to third, what i do is ease back on the pedal and then it shifts to third/fouth. any ideas?

if you have a bowden cable adjust it for the shifts to shift earlier.. i do belive if you tighten the cable it makes it shift sooner and if you loosen it shifts later..

Click the D.I.Y tab on the top of this screen and scroll down to transmission adjustment. GOOD info.

Tranmission

I tried the DIY links for transmissions, but they keep opening as dead links for me.Regarding Bowden cable, is this the linkage on top of the Valve cover on some cars?, if so i do not have this it appears that it is a direct link to the tranny.

Yes, and connected to the throttle linkage. Below is a pic of the front end of the bowden (kickdown) cable. The adjustment is on the far end where the shroud ends. First . Check for vacum leaks at all other locations as pictured
I don't have the 300D anymore so I can't give you a good picture - maybe someone with a 79D will help out
