95 e300d trans cooler hose assy fix with pics
95 e300d 160,000. Drove car up on ramps and let it cool down overnight. Made the fix this morning. I was expecting to lose more fluid, but as it turns out I only lost about 15 ml. Installed new assy and routed it exactly like the old one. Tightened down and added about 15 ml new dexron III in the dipstick tube. So far, so good. I am curious to know if there is really any pressure in the trans cooling line system?

So why did you replace the line? Preventative maintenance?
I have 161K miles on my E300D and often wonder what I should be replacing. I think the lower radiator hose is do. I just did the belt and tensioner. And motor mounts. |

I am going to replace mine with spring wrapped ones like that in the spring. Cheap insurance.....

YES that system is under pressure. Not huge but a pretty reasonable amount. Notice the ends of the hose, that usually tells you how much presure they have to resist.
You only lost 15mL? Must have been from parking it up on ramps and all the fluid drained back to the tranny pan. Good idea. Thanks for the pics! |

I replaced it because the old one was leaking.
