The great sports car in my driveway I never drive because I luv my 85 300D...
On my driveway sits a 95 240 hp SAAB 9000, an ode to my mid life crises, with an upgraded turbo, brain, and all kinds of tweaks and twacks. I thoroughly rebuilt and modified everything from the motor to the HVAC to the sound system.
I hardly drive it and I know it'll be sold by summer. Every morning I look at it fondly but in the end I always drive my trusty 85 300D on my 120 mile commute. Something about my 300D says its the right car for my soul, the same reasoning as to why we pick our wives, our dogs, our homes and our jobs and the way we sleep, on our stomach or on our backs. The other night I took the SAAB for a spin; had to warm the motor to change the oil. It takes to the road like an aerobatic plane, hugs the road tightly and whooshes silently down freeway curves with no creaks or funny noises, and overtakes even higher powered cars because its so light. You know what/ I was bored, I miss my 300D! and its rattling engine. I MISS that trustworthy Diesel of mine. I miss the engine sound and the smell of Diesel and the way she feels as solid as a tank.............. |

I have a neighbor who has a red 86 450SL in mint condition and a '05 black Caddy;
because of other stuff in the garage he can only fit 1 car in the garage. It's not the Caddy..... |
so true!! i bought a newer w126 gas-engine car with way less miles but i still love driving the 300sd!

Carrameow,
Boy what a profound statement about your 300D. I feel exactly the same. I have an 03 Corvette which has under 3k mi because I just couldn't be happier getting in and driving my 87 300TDT. I suspect there are others of us out there who feel the same joel |
I have a really clean restored '67 Camaro sitting in the garage under a cover and about 8 moving blankets (cat protection)
Instead of driving this car that causes people to pull up next to me and "thumbs up" and wave etc... I drive a station wagon:eek: :eek: :eek: My 17 year old son thinks I've goon mad, as pretty much does everyone else. I've lived where I'm at for almost six years, and my neighbor accross the road said "you've got a Camaro??" about 3 weeks ago. I sure could fund a fleet of diesels with that Camaro...... Hmmmmmm:rolleyes: OK, I'm not stupid. The Camaro stays!!!!:D |
got a pic of that camero?? .. funny how you find out what is in some peoples garages .. not to hijack the thread but in my sub division ive seen a boss 302 on jack stands a vintage corvette stingray or two a GTO an original FairLady Z a newer GTO one of those cars like urkle had some old jag a new 350Z and then their is my 300D the only in this whole subdivision of 1000 houses..

No I believe he does mean 450SL, that is the model that pre-dates the 380/420/500/560SL's, it is from the 70's. 1978 450SL: http://www.mbca-wi.org/classifieds/450sl_0508.jpg 1989 560SL: http://www.chooseyouritem.com/autos/...Benz.560SL.jpg |
