How do I remove the hazard switch?

I want to replace the hazard switch on my ’82 300SD but I can’t find a way to remove the wood trim without damaging it. I’m afraid that if I apply too much force, the wood will crack Do I have to pull the wood panel to access the rear of the hazard switch for replacement? Is there some kind of trick to removing the wood trim piece?

I changed mine in my '79 300D. I used an exacto knife to pry it out. The new one snaps right in. BTW, How much did you pay for a new one? Mine cost $79

I have found the most sure way is to remove the wood panel. Start at the ashtray and work up. There are two screws under the bottom edge, once the ashtray and radio are removed, it can be pulled down and back to access the back of the panel.
