Replacement Key - Non Valet - How to Buy ?

I have a 1981 300D parts donor I bought.
The car was wrecked when I bought it 3 years ago,
it never got registered.
Cannot find the key to get the trunk open,
dealer says they cannot sell me a key unless
registration matches my drivers license.

Any one got any ideas on how to get the key replaced ?

I read all the threads on opening trunks and none seem to
apply to me. No cable under rear seat, not really a stuck lock etc..

Thanks,
Bob

Drill out the lock. Or use a saw.

rhodes,

I think the valet key is thinner than the regular key so the regular key won't fit into the trunk lock. You might try filing or grinding the regular key until it goes into the lock.

Or maybe a lock smith could make you another key.

Try another dealer...

Our local dealer needs proof of ownership (insurance card, bill of sale, etc.)

unless you try Hatties "get-a-bigger-hammer" method

I'm not sure what you mean by that. My valet key is simply void of the grooves on the side of the key that the master has.

My car came with only one key and it fits the doors, the ignition, glove box, and the trunk.

What is this valet key you speak of, and what will it not do?

I have three keys, which one would be the valet? The round head one?

The valet key does not open the glove box or trunk. You give it to the valet to park your car, but the contents of the trunk and glovebox remain private.

The valet key is the round headed one, the master : square. What that dealer told you is BS. A title and a drivers lisence should suffice for proof of ownership.

Hijack

Just a brief digression if you don't mind, since we're on the subject of keys...

If I order a new door handle, how hard is it to switch out the lock? Do I need to take it to a professional locksmith?
