Looks pretty, but let us know how it works after a week or so. Please clean that cam cover too!

Yes, it's a nice looking tube. I recently put a new one on the SD.

BTW, what's that butt ugly device between the valve cover and the air cleaner??

Those vents are better, but they are a little soft. They will tear if you bend them too sharply to get them out of the way of the air cleaner cover. I've broken two of them like that. They tend to tear/crack at the elbow (at the valve cover). They will probably last forever if you're careful.

Have used that for years on my 123s. It looks better. Clean up your engine for the pics mister.

is it safe to use a 2200psi pressure washer to clean the engine...because i cleaned it once..and that is about as good as it got..i used 3 cans of degreaser and 6 toothbrushes. I have a steam cleaner too but it isnt the strongest....

Gosh, yeah it can be really tough... Looks like you had an oil accident there or maybe incredible blowby with a breather tube not tightened on, I saw that once. There are some threads about cleaning the engine, search.

Steaming?
One thing I learned was there is some concern about washing a warm engine, particularly with the IP warm, that could cause some damage in theory. Your best best might be to take it in and have a professional steam clean and detail the engine bay, but who's know if that could cause problems, too.

I have pressure washed diesel engines 617 with no problems, cold engine only and never had a lot of dirt to remove so it worked, but that engine in the pics might need something more like steaming. I don't know for sure.

I have the perfect solution to the dirty OM617. Get a brand new one from the dealer. That'll solve your dirty engine problem, and when the new one gets dirty, all you have to do is replace it again!

I pressurewashed my 617 with a BIG pressurewasher (heated) and it did just fine. Of course the engine was piping hot (I let it cool a bit) so consider that.

Curious to see how this works...I figure if it lowered the velocity of the air it would cause a pressure increase in the crankcase and you would burn/leak more oil but we will see.

I just used the stock setup...the oil isn't too much of a problem but I might consider it to lower the speed of the air blowing into the intake setup so more oil goes back down into the pan

I don't think there's a huge flow of high velocity vapor. I think a straw could handle the air. It's just the matter of the cooling oil clogging the passage. This isn't the first one I've seen, so they must work.

Simple Green really loosens up caked on sludgy grime. Just spray it on and wait for a little bit. It's biodegradable too.

Can you actually still get them from the dealer? How much?

Then apparently you haven't seen my 300SD.

Its got blowby that a straw couldn't handle (when warm)

I imagine they work great on the cars that have ya know, actually been taken care of. Mine has had a pretty rough previous life I think.

Those vents have plenty of air capacity, probably as much as the original vent design. I doubt they will increase the back-pressure in the crankcase at all. I've been using one for 4 years.
