unreliable heat in a 115

New car to me, heat worked fine the first time I drove it, now it barely heats up. Where should I look first? Plenty of water, and engine running at good temp. Car had been sitting for a while before I bought it.

I did some work on a w114 (nearly identical body) with a dohc 6 two years ago. It had two heater valves(One for each side I think?) inside the engine bay on the other side of the driver's side firewall. Both had corroded on the outside so we took them off and flushed the gunk out of them. You should be able to see if they are passing h20 by checking hose temp. Do a search in the vintage forum, but I think the heater core is a pita; somebody said they built the rest of the car around it =(

cheers,
dan
