Ready 2 throw in the towel !!

-- i have an 86 300sdl - the CCU is acting funny - clicking on and off - so i did my research here and figured it must be the regulator and some bad connections there - i took the whole unit out - didn't really see anything that needed 2 be soldered but i did some anyway - but it all back together and the damn thing is still doing the same thing -

-- i can hear it clicking in the unit itself - it comes on and off - and at the moment i can't turn it off at all - it blows hot air when asked and cold on demand - blower seems 2 be ok - but there's a mis-connection somewhere - oh, and it trips the air-recirculation switch just above the ccu - 2nd from left switch - every now and again ..

-- i'm trying 2 sell this car and i can't until i fix this - please help !!!

-- i am in mendocino, ca.

They tend to do that at this age. I've had two of them go south in the last year. I don't believe that you can successfully solder the units from the later model ('86 onward) vehicles.

I'm hoping that my second one from e-bay will be the charm.

Otherwise, it's time to spend $200 on a proper "reconditioned" unit.

I don't care if my CCU explodes, I'll just dress warmer and keep paper towels in the car in case the windows fog..... then when I have the $$ I'd replace it. Nothing will make me get rid of this car....

Rebuilt CCUs

You can buy the Programa rebuilt units from a reseller like ******** AZ for $200+. Or you can try contacting Programa directly - may get it for less!. There was a recent post talking about the reliability of these rebuit units from Programa or CCI Uptime - seems OK according to some. I luckily do not need a replacement.
