I make a habit of using locktite on just about everything. especially if it's going into aluminum or a waterjacket...
I had a chrysler once, and I changed the water pump and I tried everything from silicone to RTV gasket sealant and nothing worked, it just kept leaking, then I tried loctite sealed her right up ...

just my 2c

Save A buck

If you use locktite fine I think blue is worth using on diesels as a general precaution however while the manufacturer loves customers who soak each fastener in the stuff at $5 for a tiny tube that tube is enough to do 2 or 3 entire engines. It takes about the amount held on the tip of a toothpick per fastener extra is just throwing money down the drain. If you hate your father in-law and get suckered into rebuilding his car on your 2 week yearly visit buy a lot of red locktite and use on every fastener it will probably cost $300 to have the alternator belt adjusted and is a truly spiteful dirty trick

orange stuff

As a kid, worked in chimerical laundries. Used something orange colored on 1" to 3" nuts and bolts. Took cast wrenches and a 6 foot cheater pipe to break them loose after just a few months. But you just really can't have a water extractor that weighs several tons spinning at 600-700 rpm running across the building.
