See Jimmy, that's what happens when you store cheese in the blower motor assembly.

I had a chipmunk temporarily living in the engine compartment of my 240D. Left a couple of nuts.

He was gone and never came back after I fired up the car with him in the engine compartment (I've never seen a chipmunk run so fast across a parking lot)

Nice. How many times did you turn on that blower and get a blast of rotting mouse wind in your face?

Jimmy, ya gotta feed those little critters if you want your blower to work.

Poor little guy got all tuckered out.

He actually looks like the low speed critter.

If you want more volumn, ya gotta get a Warf Rat. they run faster

That's actually a hamster cage hooked up to the driveshaft. Increases 240D horsepower 37%. Like Charlie said, you gotta feed 'em!

Yesterday when I started up my drill press in my garage, I heard a new noise, kind of a rattling, crunching sound. You guessed it - nuts! I last used it about a month ago. It's not a daily driller... So I set a snap trap, and this morning I find the bait gone, trap still set. Now the bait is wired onto the trigger.
My RV owner friend is trying the mothball method - got it out of an RV magazine. My idea is to keep the mothballs in a small jar with a good sealable cap, so you can contain the stuff when you don't need it stinking up the place. Mothballs are poisonous. If you smell it, you're getting it in your nose and lungs. Wikipedia "mothballs".

When I lived back in the city of Erie there was this neighbor's cat that for some reason loved to crawl up into the engine block of my old accord.

Needless to say I always left the hood a little cracked so I could scare it away before starting my car up. I would feel terrible if I killed the little thing.

I feel kinda bad for that rodent too. Imagine what the little guy was thinking when it started to spin.

The year was 2003. The car was a 2001 Chrysler 300M.

Riding to church one sunday, the lights started blinking and we were going 110mph pulling out of my driveway, at least that is what the speedometer told me.

The car was still under warranty so the dealer got to have a look. An animal had eaten up the wires, or taken the insulation off of the wires for a warm nest all over the engine. I didn't believe it until I saw a multicolored next the next Spring. State Farm didn't believe it either, but they picked up the $2500 bill, to my mother's delight.

My newest vehicle (300CD) also had a rodent problem, with a nice dead mouse surprise behind the radio... not to mention the chewed up jute insulation tucked away all over the car (in the headliner, center console, etc...) and destroyed wiring under the center console. Not a pretty site.

At least some of the more modern cooling fan set ups have reduced the chopped up cats and fur flying out the hood gaps. It would happen once every few years to me when they crawled up on the engine for the residual heat.

The very last one I got was our own cat. He had a major laceration but recovered. I will try the bucket and sunflower seed approach. I assume they must smell the sunflower seeds and come running. Good ideal.

Back before I got my '81 300TD (a.k.a. the Dark Ages) I lived in the Missouri Ozarks, deep in the woods. One day my Chevy Van would turn over but not start. I come to find out that they have these !@#$ Pack Rats there that are very destructive! I fixed the chewed-through coil wire and hung mothballs in the engine compartment. People could smell me coming a mile away.

Things were good for a coupla weeks until the same thing happened. By then, the top of the V8 was 2 inches deep in nut hulls. The same wire was chewed through right at the splice. So mothballs did not work for me.

I was remodeling a house in those same woods and noticed some strange damage to an area of drywall. I cut it out to patch it and there was a pack rat nest in the cavity. The rat had chewed out all of the gypsum leaving just the thin paper. To make matters worse, it had chewed completely through a 3/4" PVC water line. Just lucky I found it before the water was hooked up.

After that, I'll take our little Ohio field mice any day!
