looking to buy this car

OK, I know this car isn't a Diesel and i'm in the Diesel Discussion, but I need your guys advice on this.

A 1989 300E
http://www.craigslist.org/sby/car/124265994.html

I sent the owner an e-mail and i'm waiting a responce.

I'd like to know what is this car worth if it were repaired. and is it as easy to work on as my Diesel?

thanks
Nik

The gassers aren't worth as much as the diesels, but the 300E is the most produced single MB model ever (sales of 104,000+ in the USA in its 8 year run) so parts etc are super easy to find. The gasser engine is pretty bullet proof, since its the I6 its probably about as easy to work on as an OM603 (since there's extra wires and gagets under the hood) The gassers are always a little more annoying to work on I'd presume....but I personally would not hesitate to buy one, especially a 300E or 500E, I want one someday.

Maybe someone can fill in my info as I'm not sure I'm correct-
you might wanna do some searching for valve guides and ac condensors for this model - I'm not as sure about the condesors but I'm pretty sure that a lot of the 300E's have guides that wear out in the 100-150k range... And it should have automatic everything, (power windows, acc, cruise...) be prepared to deal with these if you keep it long...

this isnt that big a deal, b/c all it does is consume oil and smoke a bit, but, repairing them isnt a simple job.

And I could be thinking of another model - other than the valve guides, I never hear bad things about that motor.

My sister has one of those. Awhile back she thought she had a bad cat. I looked in my Performance Products catalogue for the part and price. I was shocked to say the least. If you got the checkbook for repairs and parts go ahead, the're beautiful cars. Though, I'm still glad I got a diesel.

it is probably an ok deal

but be prepared to fix a lot of stuff. at that price there is bound to be 2 to 4000 dollars worth of stuff that it needs sooner or later.

it would be a good idea to get it checked by a mb specialist.
