54 ford pickup/mercedes conversion
I would like to thank everyone that has offered advise to me during my conversion project. I am on the road now with only a few minor bugs to work out - mainly in the transmission shifting. I am really happy with the turbo diesel but the transmission behind it seems to be more complicated than necessary especially for a conversion job like mine. It seems to require way to much tinkering to get it to shift right. Plan to convert to manual as soon as possible. Thanks again

me too. that sounds pretty cool. Hope you have better luck with the trans. I too struggled with shift issues for years until it got worse. I rebuilt it myself with just a few improvised tools. If you can put a MB turbodiesel in an old pickup, you can make the automatic work correctly. With new clutch packs and seals, its one nice, quick shifting trans.

Yep, cool project. It sure beats putting the engine out of a 54 Ford pickup into a Benz.
![]() Is it a pretty nice truck that this engine went into? Have a great day, |
