Isuzu Trooper with Mercedes 300TD Engine

I cannot understand why somebody would put a 1985 Mercedes 300TD engine in an Isuzu truck . The seller said he is getting 30+mpg - this seems far fetched. I bet the Isuzu truck weighs more than the 85 300TD! This sure is "one of a kind". I wonder how this is registered with the DMV.

It would at least be better fuel economy than the Isuzu six cylinder engine, that can be somewhat of a gas guzzler in the city.

Yup it was selling in like Northern Michigan last go around. They should have just put a C223 TD Isuzu engine in - would have been easier/cheaper to maintain.

No A/C "but A/C could be adapted" Look at that engine bay - that would be a blast, guess you could cut out a fender well.

That truck would have to meet gas emissions for that year and it would definately would NOT.

Some poor sucker is going to get a big wake up call when they go to get the smog check.

In Colorado a vehicle can get re-titled for diesel instead of gasoline. So you technically can convert a gasser to diesel. But not this one -- an '85 engine in a '98 chassis.

NO WAY!

No fear in Kansas or Missouri. No emissions/smog/whatever tests! Inspections are safety inspections and not mechanical even.

Registration In California

For an out-of-state vehicle, it has to go through an inspection to be registered in California. They would check the VIN# on the dash and under the hood. I would love to see the face of the DMV inspector when he looks under the hood > This will be especially tough for one with a diesel engine put in (replacing a gas engine) as California does not require a diesel to be smog. Maybe that's is why it never met the buyer's price.

Why didnt they just put in a isuzu dmax engine in it??? and wouldnt it be really sluggish being that its a newer suv with a 20+year old engine. They could have put a dmax engine and still could have kept the 4x4 and the a/c
