Use the top port. The green thing is a dampener. Put that directly on top of the top port. Then on top of the green dampener, mount a tee. One branch is your vacuum supply. The other goes to the trans modulator.

What Pete said.

And, there should be an orifice (plastic piece with small hole inside) in the vacuum supply line to the VCV, before the green dampener.

The Green tube is called a transmision dash pot and is a restrictor to meter the amount of vacuum sent to the transmission switch.

transmission vacuum

If the vacuum supply and transmission line both connect to the top port what goes to the bottom port? Does the green pot have a top or bottom?

Does this look right?
Where does the "mystery line" lead to?

I should probably add that this is AFTER eliminating the lines to and from the EGR. (Thanks BC.)

mystery line is a dump

The mystery line is a dump of the vacuum that is being bled off by the valve.

It is routed into the cockpit (is that the right word?) to avoid sucking up dirt and crap from the engine and getting blocked.

Here's a link to a good article on tranny and vacuum.

http://users.vnet.net/w123d/w123d/transmission.htm

Good thing. Read it a few times, I did.

Can you elaborate on this orifice. Where to get it , is it a special part? I looked for it at Advance. It is what drops the 25 hg from the supply line to 15hg that the tranny want no? Also, Diesel Giant says above the green dampner is supposed to throttle down the vacuum to the tranny, How does it do this if the supply, tranny, and green dampner are all on a 3 way. Is it just a matter of physics and the design of the green dampner? Maybe it can rob some vacuum from the tranny?

Thanks.

It's probably a dealer item. It doesn't drop the vacuum level per se.........however, it reduces the flow from the transmission circuit. Then the VCV can leak properly and reduce the vacuum to the modulator. With full vacuum to the VCV, the "leak" in the VCV won't function properly.

The green dampener doesn't reduce the vacuum in any way........it just slows the response of the transmission circuit to sudden changes in vacuum........similar to a shock absorber in the circuit.
