W123 617 into W126?

Ok. I did a search on this but I couldn't find a definative answer. I have an '85 300D that was hit in the trunk and totaled but the engine is still perfect. I want to do an engine swap but I'd like to find an SD with a blown engine. I know they both used the OM617 engine but will everything match up, i.e. like how the trannys mate and where the motor mounts are, ect? I'm going to start looking for a good w123 or w126 body soon. Thanks.

If you have both cars then it shouldn't be a problem. I think you need to swap the mount arms out but everything else should bolt right up.

The transmissions may need parts swapped. I know the SD uses electronics to record the speedometer speed while the D uses a speedometer cable to do such. Other parts may need to be swapped too. Someone help me here.:o

Forgot about the speedo pick up. Tachs might be different if ones an 85 and the other is older. The key is to have both cars to swap things back and forth and look to see how things work.

The oil pressure gauge is electric on the SD. Still an easy swap, just put the sensor where the oil tube was. The speedo is electric but the tail housings can be swapped if you have a 30mm deep 12-point socket. Engine mount might be different.
