Thanks. I got everything back together and working. I have the newer style pump and the lower two check valves I placed with the dome facing downward and the upper check valve facing upwards. This is if you are looking down at the pump with it on the bench. There is a recess in the cover for the single check valve at the top to sit in.

time to resurrect this thread i started way back when.... now i have a 1980 240d thats also acting up.....i think maybe i cracked the vacuum line going to the booster, but even with the line off, doing the "finger test" on the pump for pressure, it doesnt seem all that strong, though it is definately sucking......i did a brakebooster for a guy with a 78 240d, and his pump sucked on my fingertip so hard it hurt, so it definately was up to par......

there was a small amount of greasyness when i took the vac line off the pump, coming down the vacuum tube, like in its connection surface, no liquid oil though, sparyed out the tube with brakespray, and blew that out nice so its clean as new in the line......can i unscrew the fitting where the line connects to the pump housing, and carefully clean any gunk out of there ?? i REALLY cant afford a pump right now, having just spent over 1000 on parts, most of them here from pelican

so i ordered a new booster-pump line, and im hoping for the best......i had ZERO problems before i took off the line, so i probably broke it, and i did make a TINY little spritz of cleaner on top of the pump connector, to be able to wipe the greasyness out......and i really mean a TINY spritz, no more.....is this maybe what messed up the pump ?? i would think no, i just broke the line, but time will tell.....

crossing fingers

Yes, but I would not use Brake Cleaner to clean it out as Brake Cleaner softens some plastics.
I had low Vacuum and sprayed it out the Check Valve with WD-40 and that worked for me. Others have found the Valve inside in pieces.

gotcha......by the way, the "leak" turned out to be a cracked rubber t connector......damm those cracks can be tiny and still make a differece.....problem solved.....

now though, after doing just about every gasket on the engine in the past weeks, it appears the vac pump gasket is leaking oil on the bottom half......any tips on replacement of just the gasket, is this a quick on/off job like i think it will be ?

thanks for your info

If the Vac Pump is coming off inspectthe Bearing and that arm.

There is some threads on the DIY section on the details. However, be sure to clean the gunk out of the Allen Head Screws so the Tool Goes all the way in.

See the pics. Some Tools for Allen wrenches have too much of a rounded Radius on them and not muce of the Tool ends up inside of the socket on the allen head. That often helps to make it easy to strip the Allen Heads.

You might check to see if all of the Screws are tight and all of them still in place.
There should be more detailed instrctions on removing and installing the V Pump below.

thanks, i will check out that info about the little cam thing......i heard about that before, never had to take one off yet.....

i am quite familiar with the horrible hell of a bad-quality allen-driver bit stripping the heads out.......i have the good expensive hardened steel sharp-edged set now, so it ain't happenin'
