603 head rebuild?
Has anyone had one of these rebuilt?
Do I need new prechambers when I have this rebuilt? Should I do new lifters?

i had my 350 head done
at 140k. no prechambers or lifters were needed. we did exhaust valves and guides but i dont think intakes were needed. shaved head and shimmed prechambers i think.
and removed about 23 pounds of black tarry stuff. tom w

What was the cost? I'm wondering if it would be smart to do it while the head is off or not, milage I have no clue on. Probably half of the miles of the motor I'd guess.

If you have the original #14 head, then I wouldn't bother rebuilding. Here's why. I'm currently in the process of refacing the valves, then swapping everything over to a new #22 head.

Nah, I'm not going to rebuild that No 14 on there now. Some fool local wants to buy it off me, so... I have to help him out there.
Just not sure if I should spend the cash to rebuild a head with maybe 100K mi on it or not.

I'd send it to Metric Motors and have then go over it and determine what is worn.

I’ll second that. Definitely worthwhile to send it to mike at Metric Motors. Worth every penny, even the additional costs of shipping, for their expertise and supreme workmanship.

although
i have total confidence in my machine shop locally, i can also say that mike at metric knows his stuff. i have called and asked him obscure questions, like how thick is the thinnest you can mill a 603 head? he knows all of it. i then have bought some minor parts from him and he doesnt mind helping even though he isnt making much on me. nice fellow.
i bought the prechamber shims from him a couple of times. tom w
