Our Ebay friend is at it again

remember the TD with the phantom tachometer?

He's selling again, http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1984-W123-300D-TURBO-DIESEL-WARRANTY-FLORIDA-LOW-MILES_W0QQitemZ4606297893QQcategoryZ6330QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

This time another repaint, look around the door handles. Looks to me like this guy does a Maaco repaint, by the way the paint does not seem to gloss at all on the hood and trunk, all orange peeled, right rear door has a dent that looks like was not fixed, just painted over, and maybe has a set of repainted wheels he installs on the car.

I have no idea what happened to the back seat. And It looks like he has taken the stick on fake wood trim and pasted it over all the HVAC, Transmission and other control panels. Two Michelin Weatherwise tires from Sears, and 2 private label tires, and 1 weatherwise spare.

As usual, user IDs are kept hidden. I hope nobody gets suckered into buying this thing.....

when did they change to that pleated type of upholstery?

its not as nice as the first style, with the batman headrests. it seems not to age as well, either. and i surely dont like pink faded palomino, either.

but still, i dont understand why everyone posts and attacks every single ebay car that has a diesel engine, a 3 point star and any faults whatsoever.

Looks like he had the bolster replaced but couldn't match the original so he contrasted the color. Interesting idea, probably saved a few bucks.
Not hijacking but look at this auction and specificaly the questions to seller at bottom. WTF

The change was done for the 1983 model year.

First he says all work has been performed at MB certified mechanics or at the stealer, but then the next paragraph states that service records are incomplete and are not guaranteed. In that case, how does he know where the car was serviced?

I'm not sure that car is as much of a rat as you think. The uneven fading on the bolsters is not unusual on cars that have had lots of sun exposure. The interior itself looks pretty much original to the year and I doubt only part of the seat covers have been replaced, the stitching has just rotted out. My guess is that that this car was pretty sun damaged and he's had it repainted and tried to make the interior look better by soaking absolutely everything in Armour All. The problem will be when all that Armour All evaporates the interior won't look half as good

why ruin a car with a crappy repaint. Sun faded peeling paint looks better to me than a re-spray that looks like it came from a can.... its honest. Not covered with make up.

Must have a great connection/supplier -

- for chrome fender trim!

BTW, just how much filler can you hide under chrome fender lip trim? Inquiring minds want to know!

Seriously though; for the money, these might be great cars (if you're the seller...)

...agree more!
The person I purchased the Volvo from had it re-sprayed prior to my purchasing it because the clear-coat was starting to go south (80's dark grey metallic--spotty!). I think they had it done at Maaco, and it looked exactly like the paint in the above posted pictures--at first! After I owned the car about 2 years it looked TERRIBLE, and it had to be repainted (despite the fact it was parked inside). It took A LOT of sanding to make it look good again, and there are still some areas of over-spray (on bumper, for one) that I can't get rid of without replacing the actual part. I wish the PO had just left it alone (considering what I paid for the car, I imagine even a cheap paint job pretty much ate up any profit ); I would have rather had it done right the first time. In a few years, whoever buys that car will probably say the same thing--
