Mobil 1 5W40 SUV missing from local stores.

I was again looking forward to my 3,000 mile oil change when I noted the 5 quart Mobil 1 5W40 SUV jugs have gone missing at the Walmart or even the Super Walmart. I was then told they did have any for weeks. Small beads of sweat began as I checked at Advanced Auto and was told they do not even carry it.

Anybody run into this, must I order via Internet and pay UPS?

Hmm maybe this could be a problem! Brian C just told me his local Walmart doesn't have any either.

Oh well I guess we can sub 15w-50.

Go to a FlyingJ or large truck service facility, Mobil fleet supplier, and buy a couple of gallons of Delvac 1 (Mobil's syn oil for diesels). Another option is to find an Amsoil dealer, they have good diesel syn oil.

I drive a 1977 300D and use the 15/50 weight extended service. I was using the 15/50 weight regular Mobil 1 synth. We have two Walmarts here in State College PA and both have said the suv 5/40 weight goes quick. Walmart claims they are having problems since Katrina (?) I just use the 15/50 weight extended service and have for years though I would like the other. It is just not as available.

By the way you may be able to go alot longer than 3,000 miles on a fully synthetic oil change.

Yep, having the same problem. Bought two 5 quart containers for the SDL many months ago when it first appeared...........now the SD is going to have to suffer with the Rotella...........can't find the Truck and SUV oil anywhere.

5 quarts for $20. was unbeatable.

I know Tom, But I test my oil once a year and do not want to come close to the soot limit because I did more city driving or idling between oil changes.

Well Brian, I guess if the $20 deal is not to be found from NY to FL I shall follow your lead and move over to Rotella T 15-50. But I still would like to think the "DEAL" will return.

I hope so. The M1 is a much better oil than the Rotella syn. The price is almost identical now. The M1 had been about $4.75 per quart and the Rotella was only $3.25 per quart........so, I had always used the Rotella. Now it's simply not worth it.

Nothing is wrong with it. But the M1, a group IV synthetic, is a much better oil than the Rotella syn, a group III synthetic.

There was quite a bit of discussion regarding group III and group IV in the archives.

I tried about 4 Walmarts near me and they had none. I was only able to find the quarts at Checker Auto for about $6/quart.
