Its plausible, they don't make those gold ones anymore, the new ones are bigger and cheesier.

the wagon

is a very well presented car.

too bad he didnt fix that rust spot.

taking the time to make one look really good like that and documenting it as if it is a one of 27 fifties ferrari collectors item works to get high bids. the car might even not be very good mechanically or just average but you cant see that in photos.

more power to him, but i wouldn t pay top dollar for it, myself. he s selling the sizzle. the steak may not be all that good.

Nice wagon if you have a spare $17k.

How does the car only have 146k miles, but it has all those badges. Do they mean something other than miles?

That TD guy's deluded. Why would I pay 17k for that old diesel when I can go on Craiglist and buy 2 year old Audi A4 3.0 Avants with warranties for that price off of people who are just casually trying to sell a car so they can get a new one. It's funny but the rich actually aren't as greedy when it comes to selling their cars. They just want to liquidate them ASAP and often do so at below market value. I'd much rather have a newer car, knowing what I know now. I'm tired of obsessing over the multifaceted rust threat these cars are constantly subject to.
That rust spot will only get worse, and from the looks of it now, there will be a real horror show when that trim is removed to survey the underlying damage. However- I know what to do and how to do it when I sell mine. Write it up as if it were something really special and take plenty of photos of the parts people want to see.

It all depends on what the market will bear. All it needs are two bidders who want the car bad enough - this applies to all Ebay auctions. I agree you can get more car if you get the Audi wagon, but the point is this is a diesel. If you check the auctions, you will find that good condition MBZ diesels are selling for much higher prices than gas ones. For example, a 1987 300TD good condition low milage wagon will fetch good money as it is a wanted car, whereas the gas 300TE of later year (early 1990s are not getting much).
This 2002 E320 wagon with 116K mikes can be had for less than $17K.

I agree that the wagons are wanted, but that's not even close to the best example I've ever seen- but it has the most outrageous BIN price I have ever seen. And, I believe it's been on sale before, or at least this is the second auction from this guy that I've seen. The Oxford, MD origin is familiar, as well as the broad side of that barn. MB diesels always sell higher than gas, as I have observed, but that seems contrary with w123s since most of them sold here were diesels. I've seen 280Es that have higher asking prices than their D counterparts. I would actually like to have a nice '85 280E but they are very very rare.
You would have to be a billionaire enthusiast to even think about that BIN price. I believe there is an eBay game being played here on the part of the seller, which is legal and fair from what I can tell about eBay.The shill bidding though might be against the rules.

That is one of the old style badges, and cannot be had anymore for free or new from mercedes. Presently mercedes gives 250k, 500k, 750k, 1000k and 1 million mile badges. Prior to the new system (and cheaper badges) they had 3, a blue and silver 200k badge, a blue on gold 500k badge as was shown in the auction and a 1 million km badge that was blue on gold with a silver star. They were smaller and in my opinion looked a bit better. I personally would rather have an old 200k badge but they are not free.

The TD sure does look nice!

Is it me, or does it look like the little rubber boots on the lower ball joints are about history?
