More wagon questions...

What is the lever on the left side of the Drivers seat? I can't make it do anything and don't really know what it is suppose to do! The radio is still a mystey too...it has plenty of buttons, what for? Center console, climate control, up arrows, down arrows, more buttons...is there a manual on-line somewhere? Can't get the center vents to blow..vaccum problem?

BTW, She has a name... "Green Goddess", for the Seafoam Green color. She is a GREAT SKEET SHOOTING CAR, I can carry all the guns, ammo, cleaning kit, lawn chair, and ice chest AND still have enough room in back to rack out and take a nap (forgot the pillow)! Caught the usual good-natured teasing about rich-fat-cat-Mercedes-driver (then they remembered I ain't rich), but she got a lot of attention. Seems to be a very practical car for my needs.

Lever on left side of drivers seat is a height adjustment for the seat. the front handle is for forward/backward.
Don't know what radio you have, so good luck with that one.
Climate control unit is over-engineering at it's utmost. Others will chime in on which button does what, I still don't have it straight.
Online info can be found at skinnerbox.steaky."something or other", I'll look for that after I enter this, and edit with a link.
Look at the DIY forum recently added to this site, and do much searching.
And let me say, Seafoam Green is almost my Holy Grail of MB colors. Way cool, in a god-awful kind of way, but I would dig it.
Got pics of that puke green goddess?

to elaborate

there is a second track on the seat. if you pull up on that lever and push back the seat will lower and go back further. if you go forward it will go forward more and up. thus accomodating folks from 4'-8 to 6'-8 or so.

it is truly amazing. and it costs extra to build them with two tracks. on of a thousand reasons benzes cost twice as much as a ford.

three times back when that was new.

Ahhhhh...height adjustment! So do you have to be moving in both directions at the same time, ie forward and up or backwards and down?? (bet mine is in the highest adjustment, PO was about 5 feet tall)

BTW, the SLS works! I loaded about 500 pounds of lead shot in the back end, started the car, and watched it slowly raise back up. That was a five dollar fix, just filled the hydo oil tank up...PO did not know what it was for.

Man, these are cool old cars! Love the way the floor carpets just pull out for easy cleaning and access, well thought out cars. They respond well to fondling....the more you rub 'em, the better they get!

Center console, climate control, up arrows, down arrows, more buttons...is there a manual on-line somewhere? Can't get the center vents to blow..vaccum problem?

center console heater buttons are in order horizontally

1. temp control knob
2 defroster only
3. up/down arrow=defroster and heater
4. down arrow is heater only
5.down arrow e/c+economy mode for the a/c
6. circle= off
7. three way fan low, high and automatic which is even higher

center dash vents are swivel eyeballs for fresh air only
dash end swivels are hot air and maybe a/c. i don't know cuz i haven't used the ac yet.

radio-expecting the europa model
volume knob and tone control ring
2 am buttons and 3 fm
manual control tuner knob
left flat button tape release the tape
fast forward button
fast rewind
track change button

a replacement manual is available from the dealer for 25$.

One minor clarification. The center vents work for both fresh air and AC, but not heat. The side vents work for everything. If you are set on heat the side vents only work. If you set the temp control to "min" you should also get air from the center vents.

The height adjustment on my car didn't work. I took the carpets out and sprayed some lube in the tracks, and finally got them to work.

Well almost.

1, "Temp control." Tries to maintain the tempurature selected. Will use heat or AC compressor IF the EC button is not pushed.
2. "Defrost button." Full blower motor, full AC comressor, full heat, out of the defroster vents. Fresh air flap closed.
3. "Up/down" , but notice the arrows are solid. Fan blows at selected fan speed based on fan buttons. Upper, lower and center vents are used based on the following. Heat center vents closed, Cool or cold all vents used. Ac compressor will be used. Fresh air vent closed
4. "Down arrow" notice the down arrow is solid. No defrost. Vents and floor used based on temp. Again center vents not used for heat. Fresh air flap open
5. "EC " same as 4 but AC compressor will NOT turn on. Temp is controled by dial and vents by tempurature selcted. Fresh air flap open
6. Circle = off.
7. Blower fan control buttons. Top= max speed (6), Middle speed (2-5), Bottom button= lowest speed (1).

If you Automatic button is "even higher", you might have a problem with your fan resistor.

thanks, i think.

ummmmm, i took it from a page in my replacement manual. nothing too hard there. it was a mystery to me also.

btw if the fan isn't blowing the diy has a section on it. lacking a soldering iron i have the unit loose in the center console and play with the vac lines when i need it.

dave, maybe it just seems like it. i will have to pay more attention. but there is a prob with the selector switch. lots of vac happening but only at certain angles to the dangle of the line. it has stopped working when placed in the dash. me thinks the fan switch is responsible.

SLS was a wonderful fix! Frankly, as I was dumping in the oil, I wishing I thought to lay down cardboard and kitty litter on the shop floor...figured I was fixin' to find the leak. It is nice when things work out OK and so far this car is working out.

Feels like DOWNTOWN...the seats go up and down, the radio works, if I don't wreak it reading the climate control instructions it'll be great. No telling what this car could do for someone that KNOWS what it suppose to do. I'm bettin' this ole heap has an automatic butt-scratcher somewhere, I just ain't found it yet. Old car, newbie owner.

This site is just great, the way folks offer up their help and knowledge, while politically incorrect, it is very Christain.

As you probably figured out, the radio has 10 pre sets.
The musical note buttons are for bass and treble. Push one, and you will see bars appear...push repeatedly and the bar(s) will increase in number until their max. amount, then start over again. Don't remember at the moment what the star is for - for setting the memory aka pre-sets, I think.
The thing that looks like a transmitting antenna, is the equivalent to the local/distant switch on other radios.
I think the rest you probably have figured out. If not, post so.
The radio can also increase in volume automatically as speed increases...However, I don't know if they included this feature only on the S class, or on yours as well. I think it increases every 10 mph, starting around 20 or 30mph if memory serves correct.

Enjoy!

-Larry
