Questions On Specs Of a 1980 300SD
I know alot of people are going to say check your user manual. one did not come with the car, however i do know where all the diesel fill locations are as of 1980. I was wondering what the oil pressure should be like ( at idle mine is right around the 2 bar mark and with any pressure on the "gas" pedal it goes directly to pinned at three). What is the approx. miles to a tank. Are all the lines on the fuel gauge still read as 3/4, 1/2, and 1/4 because i noticed that they are more oddly spaced? Should the heater blower be felt? mine does not seem to be blowing air. My tachometer works at random how can this be fixed? What is a typical redline?
Thanks for all your help |

the owner's manual, as well as the factory sevice manual is here:
http://www.w116.org/library.php Your oil pressure is normal. I have yet to calculate the cruising range on mine but I expect it will be above 400. The tach may be fixed by adding a shim (cigarette butt?) under the cap of the tach amplifier- the black cartridge located on top of the driver's side inner fender- or replace the tach amp module itself. Other questions I am not sure of - I have no need for heat here and my A/C is in-op. Enjoy the ride- and take good care of her as you have a soon to be "classic"

79,
I've gotten 750 miles on a tank of fuel on my 300SD (30MPG X 25 gal) but 650+ is more typical. You should hear and feel moving air when the blower is running. The brushes wear out in the blower motor sometimes. They can be replaced inexpensively. Blower motor is behind the glove box. Check if there is voltage to the motor terminals before you remove the motor. No voltage could be a problem in the temperature control circuit.
