Engines in 123s

A friend I knew in San Diego showed me a "300TD" which had a 5 liter Euro V-8 installed. About 245 hp , I believe. I don't know what the implications for the drivetrain were. The conversion of the rear suspension to shocks was done and is apparently doable. Added benefit of this particular conversion was that in California, it was still classified as a "diesel," and therefore does not undergo emissions testing.

i would bet

that he is illegal with a gasser motor in a diesel body and not doing the emission tests.

maybe not much chance of getting caught (i have no idea) but i bet if he is there is a hefty fine.

Probably is a hefty fine, but sort of difficult to enforce, given that they don't perform emission checks on diesels in CA. Sort of surprising, given that emission checks are performed in Arizona (where I live) on diesels.

If you are aredneck then you can put a chevy 350 in it:D

I saw a chevy 350 in a 1970's vintage 450sel body. Of course, that would give you something that was not purely German, and I think the rule is that the various components of the whole auto have to originate, or at least have been designed in the Bundesrepublik Deutschland. I don't think a Chevy 350 qualifies, unless General Motors imported the automotive equivalent of Werner von Braun to design the Chevy 350.

Valve adjustment?

ALDA?

Those two things right there can completely change your car from a dog to a screamer. A lack of low end power should NOT be a problem unless you have expecations from driving our good ole friend the M100 :D

Valve and ALDA manipulations will not turn a 617 into a 5.0 liter Euro 117 V-8.;)

No but they will turn the 300TDT wagon back into a car that can get out its own way. :D

Turning a screw and adjusting valves is a lot easier and a LOT more cost effective than the 5.0L :D

I'd still like the 5.0L in the wagon though...neat project! :D
