is it a triple K?

i was looking at my compressor housing and i noticed a triangle with three k's in it... is is really a triple K turbo? is it.. must i be dreaming? this is the car in my sig..

it is in fact a triple K i used the search function and it actualy turned up a resault for once that is useful... now the question is.. how rare would an 1985 om617 with a tripple k be?

Sure sounds like a KKK. The KKK was used interchangeably with the Garrett for awhile. The '86 SDL has a KKK and the '87 had a Garrett.

Take a photo and post it.

We'll confirm.

Can you take a picture of your turbo? I've heard that all 1985 models have an air recirculation valve on the compressor wheel side. Though, I've never seen a KKK with one.

Myself, I have one of each for my '83. They're both great, but I think I like the sound of the KKK better.

Thumbs up

The AIR valve connects a small vac line to the compressor housing.

Every '85 came with that turbocharger that I've ever seen, if you have a different one it was replaced at some point in the past. I have a lil KKK I plan to install on my SD at some point.

Most '83s I've seen and some '84s have the KKK turbocharger.

FWIW - my SDL has the KKK currently.

Ah, have you also tweaked the ALDA up? I'm curious how the KKK will be versus the Garrett I have currently.

Seems like it'll be a bit quicker around town from what I have read.

Yes, I have seen pictures of 1985 turbos, and aside from the typical wastegate actuator hose, there is a squareish device with a vacuum line attached to it. I was under the assumption that they were all Garretts (special model made in France, or some story I was told). I'm not exactly sure of all it's importance, but I believe it works like a "blow off" valve that releases compressor wheel pressure.

Garrett turbochargers are made in France.

I read there is not much difference and that the Garrett is slightly better on the highway but not as good in town. I just adjusted the wastegate on the Garrett and it was a major pain in the ass getting that spring retainer back in.

I need a bit of advice on adjusting this wastegate. I have all the documentation on the procedure and am familiar with what needs to happen. I made a very thin 14 mm open end wrench for the two flats on the shaft.

Now, the question arises because I understand that the entire diaphragm must rotate within the housing???

In my case, I tightened the nut but the diaphragm remained in place. Shouldn't the diaphragm be attached to the center shaft in some fashion?? If not attached, then there is no adjustment possible??

Any advice appreciated.
