Exclamation Rough idle and shifts

My 300sd is performing much better than when i first got it however after tweaking the aneroid and fabing up a new intke elbow, it now blows a lot more smoke and has a very rough idle and rough late shifts at about 3500rpm and it feel like it should be shifting at like 2700rpm. however, it is accelerating to 60 in about 11 sec. which is where i want to keep it. anyway one of my vacuum lines is missing (i will post pics later) and i would like to know where it is supposed to go, that may be part of the problem as well. so my question is could i be in need of a valve adjustment, will that stop the rough, shakey idle and excessive smoke? also note that it is running really loud, like a big rig.
