When you state that the "bulb rattles", do you mean the entire headlight?
Do you have the standard DOT issue sealed beam headlight? This headlight is retained in the housing with a chrome plated sheet metal ring that fits the front of the headlight. The ring is held with four screws. Usually, a careless PO will drop and lose the screws rendering the sheet metal ring useless. Take a look to see if the ring is in place. Look at the opposite headlight to see the ring that I'm referring to. However, you need to remove the headlight door to see this ring. The headlight door is the large plastic piece......probably cloudy by now......that sits around the headlight and the foglight. To remove it, you need to first unwind the plastic knurled knob that holds the marker light. Then pull the marker light forward and away from the body. It can hang by the wire. Then, find three more plastic knurled knobs on the inside of the body around the headlight. Remove these knobs to free up the headlight door. Now, VERY CAREFULLY, attempt to pull the headlight door forward. It might fight you a bit......don't force it. One of the knurled knobs is a strap that has to clear an opening to allow the door to be completely removed. Just remember that the door is 20 year old plastic and it's easily broken. So, once the headlight door is removed, you can look right at the front of the headlight and see the chrome retaining ring. Either you have it or you don't. But, my guess is that you have it but are missing three of the four screws. Let us know how you make out. |
