300SD Door Locks?
Hey everybody. I recently bought a 1981 300SD from one of my father's friends. Beautiful car and it really doesn't surprise me that it has such a following. Anyway, the man I got it from has three different keys. One for ignition, one for doors, and one for the trunk. Turns out the driver's side lock isnt working from the outside, so I have to go through the passenger's side to enter the car. Real pain in the butt. I was wondering if it was possible, and for how much I could get a set of door locks that I could put in the car, the ignition, trunk, and locks. That way the drivers side door would be fixed, and I would need one key for everything. Thanks in advance.

I believe if you remove the door handle and take it, your master key and the VIN to a dealer you can order a new lock tumbler assembly that fits your existing key. If that is in fact the problem. I would make sure the problem with the driver door lock is not associated with the guts inside that is activated by the vacuum gadgets first. Sometimes those things can be a problem and they stop the mechanism from moving at all. Jim

Where are you? Could it be frozen? I have an 85 w123 and the locks froze, key would go in but not turn. Fisrt I used lock deicer, then some grease that was supposed to help keep water out, can't remember the name.

I'm in Brooklyn, NY. It's cold out but I dont know if it's cold enough to freeze a lock. Regardless, it's worth a shot and I'll go pick up some de-icer in the morning. Thanks a lot guys.

A complete set of locks with matching keys went for $100 on ebay
last week, maybe a junk yard has a set pulled out. The set included Ignition tumbler, two doors, trunk, and glovebox. All really easy to replace. Are you saying that these three keys are absolutely all different ? Whatever opens the trunk is definitely a master key and not a valet key. Will that trunk key open anything else ? Do any of those keys lock the glovebox ? If the drivers door lock is in need of lubrication you might be able to free it with some sort of lube, WD-40 might free if indeed it is stuck. My other thought is that the drivers door lock is keyed to a key you don't have.

How does he remove the drivers door handle/lock ass'y if the key doesn't work? On W125 you need to remove the screws and then use the key to turn the mechanism to get the clearance to remove. Is there another way?

Actually my locks have gotten really really stiff/almost frozen at temperatures a bit more than 30 degrees Fahrenheit, so im sure its easily a possibility in NY.
