Film projector sound?
While driving 400 miles back from the Portland get together yesterday I had plenty of time to listen to the sound my engine makes. I noticed that I could hear a faint ticking like the sound an old film projector makes, when driving at about 60-65 mph. I suspect that it is the valve train, but I just adjusted the valves before the trip. Should I be worried about this sound or just ignore it? What else could it be? The car ran flawlessly on the 800 or so mile trip. Thanks. –Bryan

I have a similar sound in my 126 but
mine sounds as though it is in the rear and is only audible when coasting and disappears when I place the selector in neutral....

Can also be an exhaust leak.... a pitter-patter sound at certain speeds.

May be your blower motor. Turn thr fan off next time u hear it.

*watching*
My 240D doesn't have any such noises so I am sorta without advice. I would suspect the valve train but if you end up not being able to find what it is, just let go a little and keep an eye on stuff. If it dissapears then most likely it was a valve :) |
I'll play around with the blower next time I am driving, and look around the header for any signs of a leak. Other than that I guess I'll just leave it be for now. Thanks.

Capture a sound bite of it. I can only think maybe you have a tiny exhaust leak. Sometimes that will sound like the old super 8 projectors.
