What is a good running 617 engine worth?
I left a rusty 300TD wagon in Wilmington when I moved with my mechanic. I need to take him the title so he can part it out. It ran and drove but was rusty as hell. What is the car worth?
He was going to give me $350. Should I rent a trailer, pay him storage and bring it home? I guess that engine would work in my 82 300 SD if I needed it as a spare. The rest is worth little to me. Give me an opinion. Thanks.

To some people, that head is worth something, because it has the mounting for the pump for the leveling system.

If you have the space I expect you could make more than $350 parting it out yourself. You could probably get $350 just for the engine and tranny. Then you would have all the interior bits and pieces to sell if they are in good shape. Palomino seems to be a covetted interior color.
I myself am looking for an SLS activator switch (working or non) so if you or your mechanic part it out please PM me with info on that part. Thanks, Glenn |

I saw someone on Portland's CL asking $800 for a 617 engine and tranny. Mileage unknown but claimed running good.

yes
i would say a good one was worth 750 to 1000. especially since parts have gone up due to the exchange rate.

Yep
I agree that you could get more than that for the engine and tranny. As for that one for $800 in Portland it has been on there for about 4 months though.
But still the car is worth way more than $350 if you can do it yourself. Or if it isn't all that bad and the rust is fixable go ahead and keep the car or sell it as a whole. Good luck

$700-1000 for a nice 617? Wow, they're a dime a dozen around here.
