What is this thing...

under the hood, drivers side fender well, small brown canister with a screw on cap...take the cap off and it exposes about 8 female plug holes...the can has the male plugs.

I was told this is a computer port...but it is connected to the cruise control system and says VDO.

What is it?

What is suppose to do?

I wouldn't think so but I guess its possible.

This can is for taking the sensor signal from the sensor and turning it into a voltage that the gauge on your dash can read.

As far as I know, the cruise control operates independent of this system. It looks at the speedo signal.

I bet the reason the cruise looks at the spedo is because its more reliable than the tach....

Then again, its probably because rpm's can fluctuate based on gearing and torque converter slip, speedo is more precise.

Ahh yes the stupid tach amp. If I knock mine about a little the tach will work for a couple of minutes. Tach's on the later cars are much more reliable.
