New Member Checking In w/Question

Hi all.....new member, but long time lurker checking in to say hi and thanks for the great advice I've picked up over the past several months! I have a 1983 300tdt wagon, silver over blue MB tex. "Sherman II" has 148,000 miles and has been owned by my wife since new. I handle the routine maintenance and my indy mechanic does the tough stuff. We'll keep this one forever. I'm in the process of slowly replacing the bits and pieces of the interior that are showing 23 years of age and have run across a problem. I'm trying to find a replacement for the driver's side footrest. Mine is plastic, ribbed and broken. All of the used auto parts places I have been hunting through online only seem to have the carpeted version. Any ideas or leads you could point me too? Again, thanks for all the good advice from the board. Best, Bob

I would call the local wrecking yards....won't be new, might not be blue, but you might get lucky.

The thread on Great Stuff insulating foam got me thinking about what you could do with stuff on a car.....and I thought of my footrest. It isn't broke, but it flexes when you shift posistions, which feels odd to me. I was thinking of SLOWLY, adding the foam behind footrest to solidify it's posistion. This stuff has great adhesion qualities and gets semi-rock solid....it might work in your case.

I had this problem on my 240D

I found a good one at a Pull-a-part, but I did not want the carpet either. Turns out they are all the ribbed plastic under the carpet. Just pull the carpet off, clean off any old glue on there, and put it in. Works great. No matter the color of the car interior I looked at, they were all black plastic, which worked fine for me.

good luck,

Clay

I believe each of these cars are the final production year for that model.
