Maybe I should try this on my SD, I never have cleaned it before!

Very good description

Thanks DieselGiant! It was a very good description and the pictures are very good also. I did mine a couple of weeks ago because the vacuum line at the banjo bolt broke off. Fortunately I had a very good line with the line crimped to the banjo bolt part so I was in business shortly. Bajaman ajusted my Alda this afternoon. We had to turn it all the way up (about one and a half turns) and got a much better start off the line. I did just one 15 second run WOT but did not have my good digital clock. Looked like about 63 mph. I wonder, how many cars never have their Alda adjusted. From what I see, as tough as that little cap is covering that screw,( and I believe the cap was steel), it seems like the factory thought they would never have to be adjusted. My car currently shows 218,000 but I can't verify anything. All I know is that it has some of the rust bug, but mechanically the car is so good and such a delight to drive.

A vast majority of the turbo diesels I see in boneyards haven't had the ALDA tweaked. Maybe 80% are stock. Most of those have never seen a valve adjustment I'd bet... valve cover gasket still has the MB logo and the 617... part number!

Cleaned Bolt - Immediate change

Thanks DieselGiant!

Just bought my first Benz- an 82 300D and noticed it was pretty sluggish. I used your pictorial and cleaned the bolt and noticed an immediate change! It was pretty clogged but is now clean as a whistle. Next I have to get the A/C working and do a valve adjustment and fix the odometer...and the sunroof...

Oh, I guarantee you I'm trying this... this weekend on my 87 300SDL... I'm sure it's still got pretty much the same thing right? Well we'll see.

I'm going to try this soon! DieselGiant, how tight do I want to get that bolt when I put it back on? Is there and obvious stop or is it just "tight"?

thanks--

Steve.

Angry Hey DieselGiant, how is this supposed to be hooked up?

my MAP hose is connected directly to the banjo bolt, I don't want to have to change the motor. how do I test the electronic valve? it is still mounted to the firewall, but no hoses are connected to it.
anybody got any pictures of where the hoses are supposed to connect and how to test?
Thanks.
John

Just tighten it snug. Remember you are tightening in an alluminum intake so dont over do it.
