Cleaning Question

I have a 1984 300 D Turbo, The dash is odviously leather, but I don't know that the door panels, mirrors and other interior panels are made of. I want to to clean them (there are a few scuff marks on the bottom driver's door - but other than that the interior is like new). What should I use???

Appreciate your feedback (as always)

You have the only leather dash here then.....unless somebody custom upolstered your dash in leather, then its plastic like mine.

Do NOT use armorall , NuVinyl , or any other product containing silicones.

What is with the fear of Armorall? I've used this stuff for years and have suffered no ill effects....except the time I Armoralled a Harley seat and got it so slick i couldn't set the saddle! I'm kinda like Larry Bible's "change the oil hot and often" except "Armorall at every chanch". I don't like it on my steering wheel, but use it just about every place else. It's been keeping my auto's looking nice and nothing has ever rotted, cracked, or fallen off.

I think it is like a mother-in-law thing....you either love 'em or hate 'em!

Other than turning tires brown, it has been credited with cracking many a dashboard.

I used to swear by it years ago, now I simply swear at it.

BHD is correct. ArmorAll is crap. It contains silicone.
1)Silicone oil formulations typically attack the vinyl topcoat 2)Silicone oil formulations contain no effective UV protectants 3)Silicone oil formulations are build-up products that accelerate heat damage 4)Silicone oil formulations are GREASY and OILY and attract dust
Build-up products are recommeneded against by vinyl manufacturers

The only thing to use is 303.

pma1956, your dash is not leather, it's plastic. The seats are vinyl. The rest of the interior trim is plastic.

From what I have read....

"Armor-All" is a mixture of water, about 200ppm of UV blocker materials and what Dow calls "Code-AX" Code-AX is indeed a siloxane compound that is primarily polysiloxane linears. Linears are what give it a sliding or slick feel and consistancy. The bound water is what gives it the shine. However, this material can and will chemisorb plasticizers from rubber based materials. "

The Germans do such a nice job of creating a non-reflective surface on the top of the dashboard, it is always a shame to see someone spoil it with a product like Armorall.

Lexol

Lexol is a GREAT product for leather or vinyl. They have a cleaner and a protectant. It is not silicone based.

Go to www.griotsgarage.com

They have several products that are for vinyl and leather that are not silicone based. Their products work extremely well.

My NAPA rep sells me 303 all the time..... I prefer the Snap-on "protect one"
it's non silicone, doesn't get greasy and is semi gloss.looks nice and is AUTOBODY FRIENDLY!!!!!! if you even ONCE used armour all, and go to a bodyshop and they paint your car, it will seriously mess up a paintjob.....
