W123 300TD rear brake caliper substitution?

Does anyone know what is different between the rear calipers on the 123 wagons and the 123/ early 126 sedans? The rotors and pads are the same, and they bolt right on.
Not being able to physically compare the two at the moment, my only guess is the size of the pistons.
I'm considering temporally (until I get rich) using a set of these on my wagon...why not?
I'm thinking all I'll see is a slight proportioning difference then OEM...maybe a little faster wear on the fronts.
Anyone have any experience with this situation?
Richard

If you look at some pad references they list the wagon as using a different pad between the early and late.
The early are D102 while later models use D254
I think the 254 is slightly thicker. I own two 123 wagons, a 79 (the first year) and an '85 (the last) and I am pretty sure 've used the same type of pad in both cars without any problems in a pinch. You are correct in that the calipers are different from the sedans BTW.

If the calipers bolt on you shouldn't have any problems but look closely at how the pads fit, because they are thicker or thinner accroding to the piston travel, ie. I would use the pads for the appropriate caliper that you are planning to install if different from what you have available.

ATE is a better caliper so look for a set of those if possible and let me know what you finally do as I might need to file that away in case I have any brake problems

Since the wagon is a heavier, my guess is the pistons may be a little bigger for more fluid force, but they still may be the same dimensions as far as the externals go.

Good to hear from another double wagon owner...although I'm turning my '85 into a pick-up truck.
I respect the Mercedes' engineers decisions when they were considering the possibility of 7 to 8 passengers...but I never expect to carry that kind of load...and if I did, I probably would never get going fast enough to do much damage

Yes a friend is parting out an '83 300SD with ATE's and I got both with good rotors for $30...another $38 for rebuild kits, and I'll have rear brakes again. It's unfortunate that the TD rear calipers cost so much more then for the sedans.

I'll keep you informed on how it goes.
