Changed the glow plugs…still having problems!
I have a 1984 190D with a 2.2L engine. According to tests from a multi meter 2 of the 4 glow plugs were bad. Last night I changed all four glow plugs; it took a lot of patience because I did not remove the air intake.
The 80 amp fuse is fuse is fine and plugs and wires test fine. The car is starting fine without being plugged in as well. However my glow plug light still does not work. What is wrong? About a month ago I was traveling and my ignition switch went out. When the shop fixed my car they gave me the car running so I did not notice that when they had it the glow plug light stopped working. When replacing the dash could they have messed up the light? If this is the case, what should I check? The car hasn’t been driven much in the last month (since the glow plug light was broken). When it was driven I would turn the key and heat up the glow plugs a couple times, probably waiting 30 seconds each time and finally turning the full way. Is this bad on the plugs? Is that why I had two go bad? |

If the glow plug light does not illuminate at all, its very possible they knocked the bulb loose or knocked it out of the socket completely. I would pull the instrument cluster and make sure its seated properly.

Glow plug light is illuminated by a timer circuit in the Glow plug relay...if your bulb is good and its plugged in its possible that this is all thats wrong.
If the car starts easily don't sweat it too much, the important part is working.

Dont know if a 190 is the same but on the 123s you remove the panel under the dash, driver side, The GP light and a couple others, plug into the back of the instrement panel. You can give the socket a half turn, pull it out and inspect the bulb. First see if the wires are pluged in. They could heve easly not put a wire back on.
