1987 300TD for sale, Greeley Colorado

Saw the ad in the paper and talked to the owner. Seems like a good deal. 173k miles. Crack in windshield, needs tires, and a bumper cover. Seller e-mailed me pictures and it looks pretty nice. Color is very dark grey, almost black. Has third seat. Price $3500. His number 970-405-7624 Current owner said Stu Ritter maintained it for prior owner. If I was in the market for another wagon, I'd buy it, but I like my 123.

Did you see the 240D in the paper in Denver? It's been there for a few weeks and since Tom and i are buying a car sight unseen and have never driven a benz, we decided (I decided, Tom came too) to go look at it and give it a drive.

Hmmm. Price is $2700 and not worth that in my opinion.
Slow, but not as bad as I thought it would be.
The transmission didn't want to shift unless I backed off the gas. Is that normal? And it shifted REALLY hard, like the tranny was going to drop off the back of the car. It also seemed to come very close to stalling when coming to a stop and it took a bit of babying to start it.

Lots of new stuff, including a new alignment that didn't seem to hold. It wanted to go left and the wheel wasn't aligned with the dash.

My main reason for looking at it was to see an older MB in person before picking ours up from MT.

So, is the shifting hard something normal or is there something wrong there?
Thanks,
Ginny in denver

Even well-adjusted MB trannys don't shift like US trannys. But, vacuum issues can harden/soften shifts. Personally, I like being able to control the shift by backing off the accelerator. Our 77 300d behaves that way.
