Can't believe what I saw.....!!!!

Took my wife to Wal-Mart and I stayed with my son in the car. (everybody has been there done that) I was cruising looking for a park spot when out of the corner of my eye I caught a familiar color. There was what appeared to be the long lost twin to my old 300D (Colnel Mustard). I pulled around and it was a 240D and the owner was still in the driver's side. I snagged the space next to it and the woman got out. Older woman, well dressed, very neat. I called her over and started to ask about her car. She was reluctant to approach but she realized I was asking about the car.

"How many miles on your car ma'am?"-----"Oh, not many"

She then told me it was her brother's and it came from VA. She was looking to sell it as soon as they did some research on it value. I asked if I could leave my name and number under her wiper and she said absolutley. (it was cold out)
My wife returned so I hopped out to take a look. The paint on the hubcpas were in decent shape but the hubcpas themselves were a little dented up. There looked like a little body work had been done in the past. Very small spots of rust were apparent at the bottom of the wheel wells. Just enough to start to turn the paint red. One small rip in the driver's seat. Dash looked good.

I peeked inside to check the odometer.....(drum roll please).............8,000 miles!!!!!!!!!!!

Being the body is not flawless, and the miles are accurate, what is the realistic worth of this thing?

I hope she calls me.

If they wax it up and paint over the slight rust spots, she'll probably get $10K on e-bay.

Far stranger things have been known to happen...

Maybe they will give you first right of refusal. Never hurts to ask someone , you can find bargains like that at times.

Really?

You ask, "Being the body is not flawless, and the miles are accurate, what is the realistic worth of this thing?" And I would say. Being the body is not flawless, and the miles are inaccurate, what is the realistic worth of this thing?
Better check that 240 out real good, maybe it has 108,000 or just as easily 208,000.

I could very well be wrong but I could have sworn I saw 0083xx on the top odometer.

I don't think that anyone is questioning the veracity of what your eyes witnessed............

We also don't know when the speedo last worked. Yesterday, or 1985?

Provided the mileage is on, it probably sat a lot in a damp garage or something. The interior should look new though.

See what she wants for it I wouldn't pay more then $4k-$5k. Its an old car and is going to need all of the rubber parts replaced.

If the rust isn't bad and you could get it cheap enough it might be worth having the body work done and flipping it for a profit.

We can speculate all we want. I swore I saw it but I don't believe it either. I hope she calls me and then I can go over it and report it back here. I told her I'd like first crack at it.

if the car really does have 8K, going by that 300D that sold for 20K, you should be able to sell that car for around 30K on ebay!
