Last weekend I filled up with the lowest price for diesel ($1.29/gallon) since I bought my car last August. The place is a Mobil station 3 miles from where I live here in Houston close to Hobby airport.

Is everybody else seeing a decrease in diesel prices? Are there others in the group that have seen lower prices?

I just paid $1.64 in southern California, in a fairly industrial area. Prices are more like $1.75 to 1.89 in the fancier parts of town. Price was as high as $2.10 a couple of months ago.

Herb,

I saw $1.26/gallon at a Mobil someplace east of San Antonio on a road trip this weekend. There were lots of big rigs filling up over there. Its funny, I always see the cheapest prices at Mobil stations. I go to a diamond shamrock on FM2351 in Friendswood ($1.36).

Prices still coming down

SW

I just passed by the Mobil station where I usually buy fuel and saw that it as come down even further to $1.26/gallon.

BTW, I pass by through on FM 2351 in Friendswood just about every weekend. I'll keep an eye on that Shamrock's prices now that you mention it.

Diesel in my area of NJ is running about a $1.50 a gal. At some gas stations, diesel cost more than premium gas, and at others it's opposite. I am in the Air Force and buy my diesel on base. Diesel is currently selling for $1.54, whereas premium is selling for $1.48.

Sure is good to be in South Carolina. I paid 1.21 for diesel last Friday in Greenville. Unleaded was a 1.23 at the same station. Have a great day.

Prices in the Jackson, MS area where I drive seem to range from $1.65/gal for Texaco to $1.50/gal for Conoco. The Texaco has only gone up; Conoco is down somewhat.

Diesel in St. Louis is $1.299. No lead is about $1.259. We should see the price continue to fall as the demand for home heating oil falls, the economy weakens, and, oh yeah, check out the oil drilling rig count, it's skyrocketing...a traditional indicator that oil and nat gas prices will be falling soon.

Diesel price

San Francisco: lowest I've seen is 1.649
per gallon. Inner city it still goes for 1.99
per gallon.
My theory is that with the end of the last
president's term, so much 'slick oil' has
come up to surface that Diesel supplies
have gone up!!

In the Denver metro area of Colorado $1.51 seems to be a pretty standard price for diesel, regardless of what company you buy from. I have seen as low as $1.35, but the station was poorly maintained and I was hesitant to put their fuel into my Benz.

Diesel fuel cost

In Phoenix, AZ I pay the same for premium diesel for the 300D as I do for premium gasoline for the 400SEL. I use Texaco nearly 100% of the time since the station is very close to my home. I always thought that it cost the refiners less to produce diesel fuel than gasoline. I must have been misinformed.

Many years ago, my brother-in-law owned a truck stop. He told me that he sold hundreds of thousands of gallons of diesel fuel for $0.15 per gallon. It seems that diesel fuel and heating oil approach being mere by-products of the refining process.

You can thank the Federal Government for the price of diesel fuel. Once they determined that it was a product in demand, they stacked tax after tax on it, the last being a major gouge (although I can't recall the exact amount) in about 1993 as part of the "middle class tax cut".
