300d euro to u.s. engine swap

just bought 2 1981 300d's - one is a euro with a good engine, the other is a u.s. spec with a good everthing else. want to put the euro engine in the u.s. spec. - looks like everythings is basically the same except the euro has no EGR. my question is - there are 2 hoses on the back of the thermostat housing that will be left unconnected with the new motor , one is a thermo-vacuum valve? connection that has a vacuum line comming in from the valve cover and going out to the EGR and the other line looks like an electrical connection that goes where? can i just block off the vacuum line and leave electrical plug unhooked . BTW i have the whole euro car and can use as much of the exhaust system as needed. i planned on just pulling the motor but it seems i will need to use the euro manifolds? also the throttle linkage is slightly different (euro has 1 vacuum valve lever on valve cover - u.s. has 3), i think i can make this work by using parts of both. finally - euro car has no a.c., so i'll bolt up the a.c. off old motor along with the front belt pully assembly for it. does all this sound right? thanks for any help

what is that wire?

well - after looking around on this sight, it looks like i just plug the egr vacuum line comming from the valve cover and i don't have to make block off plates for the egr because i'll use the euro manifold with no egr in it. but that still leaves the mystery wire next to the thermo-vacuum valve which will be left unplugged because the euro motor has no plug for it - what is this wire and can i leave it unplugged? thanks

cant

you put whatever it plugs into in the euro motor?

be careful with the throttle linkage. they are significantly different. we got it wrong when we put the 300 euro engine in my 83 us 240. it worked but didnt give full travel. also you wont be able to get the cruise to work unless you change over the ip and the complete throttle linkage from the us car.

good luck

still want to know what that wire is

the wire plugs in behind the thermostat housing next to the thermo-vacuum valve for egr - i don't know if this comes off and is swappable or if it is part of the engine block - it would be much easier to leave it unplugged, that's why it would be nice to know if its critical. the euro car also has cruise, but i will take care like you said and give close attention to the throttle linkage.

what's an ip?

i will be using the entire throttle linkage - attached to 2 or 3 inch metal lever thing protruding through firewall. also, what's an ip? i am new to this but not completely dim. though i may sound, act, look (but never drive) that way. thanks for the help

injection pump.

My '80 euro has a Sanden ac compressor, it is mounted way low on the drivers side, (approx 5oclock position as you face the engine. I have not seen any US versions like that in the junkyard.

ac compressor

my u.s. model seems to be mounted same as yours - 5 oclock low, drivers side - just assumed euro motor would have mounting points for ac - just didn't come with ac option from factory? - i better check for stud holes or bracket

BTW - both cars are non-turbo
