'81 300D - Vac Pump Question
Hey, I've searched and not found a direct answer.
I picked up a vac gauge and did some testing. 1. Disconnected vac mainline from brake booster 2. Put a gold tee in one the the lines 3. Put my tester on the other I only get about 15" of vac at this point. Does that tee in the supply line restrict vac? Should I have put the tester on the end of the main line (where it connects to the booster) to get an accurate reading? My issue is that the car shifts really high and hard. After I drive around for about a half hour it shifts beautifully. If I shut it down for a few and go drive around again, it takes a little while to get back to good shifts. I dunno, could the vac pump fuction better when warm? Thanks. |

I believe you should be getting between 20 and 25".
Try looking through the link below, it should show you the best way to test the vac system. Diesel Giant's Vacuum Troubleshooting Guide
