Leaking Bowden cable 1987 300SDL

I'm finally back in the garage after giving in to the cold weather and of course, the first thing I notice is a nice puddle of ATF on the garage floor. Which is fine because I like working on my car more than driving it.

I spent some time cleaning the tranny up so I could trace down the leak and to my surprise it appears to be leaking from the dipstick tube and the Bowden cable (is this AKA the kickdown cable?).

So I'm assuming I need to replace the cable, or at least I would like to since it's 20 years old, but I can't figure out how to remove it. The parts store also told me that the new cable does not come with a seal and they do not sell a seal for it, does it have an embedded o-ring or something?

I searched the forums and found some help but I couldn't understand how the cable disconnects from the tranny. I understand that I can drop the pan, pull some internal components and un-hook the cable but is there anything that physically attaches the cable body to the tranny? I don't see any screws or fasteners, I thought maybe there's a clip buried in there somewhere. Can anyone tell me how to get that cable out of there and what actually seals the cable?
