Will '84 190D 5spd trans fit 123 diesel chassis?

I have a line on a 1984 190D 5 speed manual trans and linkage. Has anyone done this swap into a 240D 123 chassis? I have looked at a 190D and the trans looks like the same configuration as the 123 manual trans. I have a cherry '77 240D and a '83 300Dturbo donor car. I would like to put the 300Turbo engine with the 5spd into my '77 240D. It would be a fast, simple car....No power windows, no climate control, no sunroof to worry about. Thanks

Sorry, not a winner this time. Play again soon!

No, the tranny isn't compatble with the 616, 617 engnes. W201 (190D) would have either an OM601 or OM602. Both those engines have the starter on the left side (and consequently, the starter wart on the bellhousing too);the 616 & 617 engine starters are on the right side.

but you

can put in a 240 tranny. the four speed will make a nice car too. and with the sd motor and a four speed and a 307 rear end you will be able to get in the high twenties on the road, i predict.

Thanks guys for the response.... I had a 1980 VW dasher diesel wagon that I drove for 19 years. It origionally came with an anemic 1500 48hp diesel with a 4spd. Best mileage it ever got was 35mpg. I put a new 1600D in it and had my pump perked up and could get 38mpg. I did some research and found that an Audi 4000 diesel 5spd would fit with a little modification to the center trans hump. I would routinely run 44mpg thereafter.
I think that a light weight 240 with a good tuned 300 5cyl turbo and a 5 speed would be hard to beat.
I am sure that they made them that way for europe. Thanks again.

the five

speed that came in 123s is rare as hens teeth here. probably common in europe.
