turbo disaster

I remember reading that you cannot "add" a turbo to a non-turbo engine. They just are not made for a turbo, something to do with the piston, rings, etc., the whole manufacturing process.

the above

description of how to add a turbo is so oversimplified it is dangerous.

the factory turbo engines are so different as to be only related by number of cylinders. there are few parts that are the same. maybe the valve cover and the head.

the crank, block, pistons, injectors, injection pump, harmonic balancer, alternator, intake manifold, exhaust maniford, the complete exhaust system, the starter, the oil pan, the oil pump, the oil pump drive, and on and on... are all different.

the only way i would consider adding a turbo to a non turbo engine is with a comprehensive turbo kit. if you try to do it on your own you will most likely end up with an unfinished ruined project. this is no knock on you or your skills it is just a very complicated project.

if you want more power, swap in a 300 na or 300 turbo motor, tranny and rear end and speedo and radiator. not simple but it will work and in the end wont cost any more than adapting a turbo to your 240 motor.

anyway that is what i would do. ( i have had two 240s converted to 300 motors by my indie)

adding turbo to 240D is not that dangerous

it has been done a lot. bone stock engine can handle 100hp. oil cooling and intercooler is a must. turbo kits for that engine has been sold by companies, i doubt it would have been done, if it kills the engine right away.
