Not diesel. The most ridiculous turbo system

REMOTE mounted turbos.

All the turbos they sell are REMOTE mounted BEHIND the rear wheels! They claim that they spool up by 2500rpm...

I can see it now. You pull up to a car show in an LS1 camero. People see the trubo decals and ask you "Where is the turbo?" You reply "back there..."

That is crazy! Do you see how close to the ground the turbo is? One good speed bump and baam, its finished.

With all the flow losses in the pipes I can't believe they are seeing any sort of performance improvement. Obviously they are or they wouldn't do it but damn are they wasting some hp on friction.

Anyone want to trade an old Volvo for an '87 300sdl?

It's not so obvious that it helps. After someone shells out enough for something like this, he'll convince himself that it helped. As for the seller, they have their motivation.

there

would be a lot of loss in the friction of the tubing. dont know if there would be any benefit left at all. i wouldnt want to count on it.

Once it's a pressurized system the rise and fall of pressures could be close to the same at a distance as not. There's also the benefit of the turbo pumping cooler and thus more dense air/exhaust which might eliminate but will lessen the need for an intercooling loop. On a V or horizontal engine it's a way to use a single turbo rather than one per side.

Not to mention all the heat losses before the turbine.

I have seen it where they have dynoed the thing and it seems to have worked. I was considering it for my truck but I had already dropped 2000 for headers and exhaust. As such, I was considering a supercharger. I know they are less efficient but I prefer the instant power instead of a turbo lag.

When I drove a turbo gasser SAAB, I would slip the clutch just a bit upon engagement, while flooring the throttle. The boost builds nearly instantly (1/8 second or less), and when it does, you engage the clutch completely. The lag that way is very minimal, at the expense of (greatly) accelerated clutch wear. I would get second-gear burnouts and a decent third-gear scratch (fwd car).

But the clutch on that car only took me an hour to R&R (which is extremely unusual), so I didn't worry about burning it up. But even then, I got over 35K on the last clutch before the car was totalled by a rear-ender.

i dont see

superchargers as being much if any less effecient than turbo chargers.

They make a kit for trucks that want to go off road too.

Supercharger has belt drag whenever the engine is running. Turbo doesn't. It uses exhaust gases and boosts only on load. You can rev the turbo all you want but it probably won't build much, if any boost. SC will drag on the crank constantly when the engine is running.
