Transmission question

Last weekend my 1987 300D with approx 220Kmi was parked facing uphill on a pretty steep grade. When I got in and put it in D and tried to drive uphill and out of the on-street parallel spot I was parked in, the car would not move. The engine RPM increased but the car would not move. The RPM increase was not a large or free as it would have been if the transmission would have been in neutral. I dropped to 1st gear and slowly pulled out

Is this a one time fluke or is it an indication of the beginning of the end of the transmission. It is original and has never been opened. Fluid -including torque converter-changed less than 15 Kmi ago.

I believe there's a check valve that usually prevents ATF from draining out of the torque converter. However, parking uphill on a steep grade would surely exacerbate any condition of ther check valve leaking. And ALL check valves leak, the question is how much. After you started, I suspect it took a while to fully pump the fluid into the TC. I wouldn't worry about it too much, actually. Next time, park on the other side of the street! BTW, it's not the B2.

Next time you are on the hill. Try putting it into drive an then waiting about 30 seconds to let the pump replinish the fluid.

Thanks for the responses

I appreciate the info. I did not think that there was any big problem because there are no problems in any other mode of driving. Still, it is good to run it by the knowledge base here.
