1979 280e euro 5sp info needed

Today I found 1979 123 4 door model with a 5sp. I asume it was a 280e but don't know for sure, there where no emblems on the trunk. The car is located at auction lot and will be auctioned next week. I only got a short glimps of the car before they kicked me off the lot. I wont be able to get a close-up look until next week. It has euro head lights, perfect cloth interior, straight body & a 5 speed. It appeared that it come from the factory without emblems.

1. Are euro versions void of emblems?
2. Am I right to assume it's a 280e?
3. Besides a 240d, 280e or a 300d. Where there any other engines put in a 79 euro 123 chassis?
4. Would the bolt pattern of the 280e 5sp be the same as a 300d?

Any advise would be greatly appreciated Thanks Steve

What color was it?? Ive seen a euro W123 at a dealer in millbrae CA. My dad and i stopped to look at it the car was running and knew instantly it was a gasser by the noise of the engine. Had euro headlights and inside was clean with a stick tranny. Had no emblems in the back other then the mercedes star so didnt know wat model it was. This one was gray. But ever since we looked that day the it was gone, actually alot of the cars on the lot were gone! im assuming he had a buy one get one free deal or he sent them off to auction.

yeah

it could be gas or diesel, and it could be a 230 four cylinder or a 250 six, i think as well as a 280. i believe that that five speed will bolt up to any of the period engines gas or diesel. it is a robust fiver and very rare. the tranny alone is worth the purchase price of the car probably if not too high.

Since you did not hear it run, there is the outside chance that it could be a Euro diesel with a five speed. Either way, stay after this one.....
